The book of Esther in the Bible talks about an orphan girl who saved an entire nation from annihilation. The Esther Project is based on this story. It will seek to create educational opportunities for under-priviledged individuals, especially children, enabling them to be delivered from poverty.
Katwe is a town located in the suburbs of Kampala, the Capital City of Uganda. The town, which is only two miles from the main city has a reputation for a high incidence of criminal activities, including drug and alcohol abuse, prostitution, theft, and much more. Pastor Michael Muwonge was born and raised in this neighborhood and has witnessed these criminal activities first hand since childhood.
In 1997 Pastor Muwonge started an organization called Glory Ministries International to combat the problems and change the lifestyle of this town. A church was built through this organization which has served the many needs of the neighborhood. Through the efforts of the church ministers and staff, empowered by the Holy Spirit, lives have been changed. However, there is still much work to be done.
Education is one of the greatest tools available to help change people's lives. Because of a lack of resources, many of the children in the villages of Uganda do not go to school. These children are idle and without hope. Glory Ministries International desires that every child born in Uganda has the opportunity to attend school. Therefore, we are building a system that will enable this dream to come true. Furthermore Glory Ministires plans to provide shoes and clothing for these children so that they can concentrate on thier studies, and not have to worry about the basics of life.
