History |
|
Born and raised in Katwe, a suburb in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, Pastor Michael Muwonge had a challenging up bringing due to the poverty and the environment around the area where he grew up from. The last born of eleven children, he struggled to make it through school because his parents could not afford paying for his education. "With the help of my eldest sister Harriet whom i owe a lot, i was able to attend school for she sacrificially paid for my education."
Katwe for a long time was the place known as the bad area because of prostitution, drugs, alcoholism and crime in general. Growing up in such an environment was such a challenge and with parents that struggled financially, it was a miracle that i was able to make it through school.
Most of the children i grew up with did not attend school and this was a concern to me even as a young child. Needless to say that a great number of those that were able to attend school were not having shoes on their feet myself inclusive. This burdened me and a desire in me was birthed to see all children in Uganda go to school, have shoes on their feet and clothes on their back.
As a youth leader and choir leader at the Church on the rock, i started outreach missions to schools and in 1996 the Glory ministers Int'l was born. One of the major aims of this organization was to to address the desire i had as a child to reach out to children and see them getting taken care of especially the orphans.
Glory Church was started in 1997 with eight members and from the get go, we were feeding people at the premises. Out reach missions to schools continued and later on we reached out to the rural areas in Uganda.
While evangelizing the Villages in Uganda, it was alarming to see the conditions the people lived under especially the children. We committed our selves to prayer about what we could do and by God's grace the Church was able to continue feeding people and have a weekly feeding program to street children in Kampala.
The ministry started planting churches in the rural areas and in 1998 among the first ones was Glory church Kyetume. This church was in the area that had been most hit by AIDS Masaka district. Immediately, the need was felt to take care of the orphans affected by aids. We prayed and believed God that he would enable us to to address this need. The Church was able to donate clothes, shoes, school fees for these children when it could. With the help of friends from England German and the United states, Pastor Michael was able to share for need of these children.
In 2002 a container of medical supplies, shoes, clothing and scholastic material was shipped to Uganda for San Diego California by our partners and friends and these children were blessed with the above donations together with a lot more people.
In 2003-2004 ,another container of the same materials was shipped again from San Diego California to Uganda and the children were again blessed and about 5,000 people were blessed as well. Thanks to BETHEL BAPTIST CHURCH, GLORY CHURCH SAN DIEGO, MELVIN AND ESTHER TAYLOR, JOYCE NAPIER and all our friends that have done a great job God mightily bless you.
In 2004 i was approached by people selling the a piece of property which was 60 acres of land in Masaka district. We put this before God in prayer and believed God to purchase this property. That same year i had a dream when construction was going on that property for an orphanage for the children. I called a friend of mine in Escondido California Juliet who had had a dream about an orphanage as well.
A couple of months passed and i spoke to that friend of mine over the telephone and she told me of a friend who wanted to do something for the kingdom of God by the name of Susie.
To God be all the Glory, in March 2005, i was in San Diego California and i met Susie with Juliet and she bought for us that piece of property and contributed the initial funds to commence construction.
The project was named GLORY CHILDRENS CITY INTERNATIONAL ( G C C I). In July 2005 a group of friends and partners came together and registered G.C.C.I as a non profit corporation. G.C.C.I has held fundraising events and money has been raised to continue with the construction along with other friend and partners.
At the moment, six houses are almost complete and in May this year we expect to have the children on the property. Thanks to all our partners.

Education |
|
In my
childhood years I struggle to go to school because my parents could
not afford paying for my school fees. I develop a desire to see
every child gets the privilege of obtaining an education. We are
going to the rural areas explaining to the people the benefits of
education and drafting a plan to build up schools.
In this endeavor children should
be able to obtain education thereby enhancing their lives. The church
members are going to be helping and talking to the villagers and
their leaders about how to conduct a census in their respective
places especially in regards to children. We shall be able to find
out how many children are in an area and thereby plan effectively
how many schools and how many classes are needed. |

ILLETERACY ERADICATION PROGRAM
Uganda still has a high population of people that do not know how
to read or write. This is because most people cannot afford to pay
for the education of their children especially in the villages.
Glory ministries international is building up a network program
to ensure that all children in Uganda can go to school.
